Dance

General Information

All of the dance classes listed here are held at Chowdene Children’s Centre, Waverley Road, Harlow Green, Gateshead, NE9 7TU.

We offer all students the opportunity to progress through IDTA grades and medals and to take part in our presentation evenings and shows.

Fees

After a 4 week (pay per class) trial period all fees are payable per month and are non refundable. There are no refunds for missed classes. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, injury or compassionate grounds an alternative class will be offered. This will not be offered to students who miss due to conflict with social or school engagements.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles and provides grace, poise and technique.

Timetable

Tiny toes & Tip Toes

A fun and exciting way for your child to exercise and learn the first steps of ballet. These dance classes will help develop rhythm, confidence and creativity whilst promoting positive behaviour, good posture and self-discipline.

What to wear:

Girls: blue skirted leotard, pink ballet shoes, white ballet socks & hair tied back.
Boys: black shorts, white t-shirt & black ballet shoes.

Timetable

Junior Ballet

This level introduces a structured ballet class implementing the study of the classical ballet vocabulary. Classes focus on correct placement, body positions & alignment while developing creativity & musicality. Students will learn traditional barre and centre work as well as building on strength and flexibility. Self -discipline is encouraged in a fun, positive way.

What to wear:

Girls: blue skirted leotard, pink ballet shoes, white ballet socks & hair tied back.
Boys: black shorts, white t-shirt & black ballet shoes.

Timetable

Higher Grades

In these grades the technique, steps and routines are more challenging. Students will expand their dance vocabulary and be introduced to more complex rhythms of music.

Classes build on the development of technical skills, coordination, endurance, discipline and musicality.

What to wear:

Girls: black ruched front leotard, pink ballet shoes, pink ballet tights & hair tied back.
Boys: black shorts or stirrup leggings, white leotard & black ballet shoes.

Freestyle Disco

Freestyle disco is an energetic and expressiveform of dance. It involves runs, kicks, spins and leaps with combinations of different arm and hand actions. Classes aim to develop flexibility, confidence, body posture & coordination. Routines can be fun & fast paced or slow & beautifully controlled. Students will enjoy dancing to the modern popular music.

This dance form is a great way of keeping fit!

What to wear:

Girls: black lycra leggings (full length) black Dancefuse vest top, bare feet & hair tied back.
Boys: black shorts, black Dancefuse t-shirt & bare feet.

Timetable

Street Dance

Learn the coolest dance moves, get fit and meet new friends. Dance to the latest tunes. Styles include Hip Hop, Poppin’, Lockin’, Breakin’, House & Choreography.  Classes aim to improve rhythm, coordination, creativity and confidence.

What to wear:

Girls: black lycra leggings (full length), black Dancefuse vest top or t-shirt, trainers & hair tied back.
Boys: black joggers or shorts, black Dancefuse t-shirt & trainers.

Theatrecraft

Theatrecraft is a form of modern theatre dance with artistic interpretation. It is the style of dance that you would see in musical theatre shows such as Hairspray, Grease, Mama Mia, Lion King etc. This is a great way for students to gain an understanding of how theatre performances work. Classes aim to improve a range of skills including flexibility, rhythm, stage awareness, direction and theatrical vocabulary. With the use of hand props, make up and a little imagination the students will find this class fun and exciting.

What to wear:

Girls: black ruched front leotard, black lycra leggings (full length), pink ballet shoes & hair tied back.

Lyrical Fusion

Our Lyrical Fusion class combines ballet technique with contemporary styles of dance, performed to a mixture of instrumentals as well as popular music. This class also allows students to develop their own creativity through a range of choreographic tasks. A great way to develop strength, flexibility and posture.

What to wear:
